ITB: Postgame Live: Reasons for Concern Despite Win
Despite their ninth straight win, many of the Philadelphia Eagles’ struggles came to surface.
On the Week 14 edition of “Inside The Birds Postgame Live,” Adam Caplan and Geoff Mosher reacted to the team’s 22-16 victory over the Carolina Panthers.
Jake Elliot
Adam Caplan: “I don’t know what to say about Jake Elliot in a year where there are a lot of great kickers struggling, he’s not the only one.”
Geoff Mosher: “It would be a shame if the Eagles’, who have so much talent, inability to kick a field goal would do them in, especially given Jake’s history of kicking in the big moment.”
Jalen Hurts
Caplan: “The passing game has been very disappointing this season, that has to get better. That’s what will hold them back from winning the Super Bowl…In the second half, they were struggling so badly to throw the football. I’m thinking go back what they have been doing every game: taking it out of Hurts’ hands and run the football.”
Pass Rush
Mosher: “This was not a great offensive tackle group for the Panthers. I think you’re starting to see when you don’t have B.G. [Brandon Graham] and you’re relying on a three-man d-end rotation and one of them is Nolan Smith, who sort of gets more of a run and pursuit pass rush than an overpowering one, and the other one is Jalyx Hunt is a rookie who’s trying to figure things out. Josh Sweat who had such a great game last week, I can’t remember a whole lot of hearing his name in this game.”
Caplan: “It was inconsistent…Although Nolan Smith has really improved as a run defender, he’s still not that good of a pass rusher, you just didn’t see much of Sweat today. The Eagles don’t have even close to an A-level pass rusher other than (Jalen) Carter from the interior. The edges are just not getting there without B.G.”
