ITB Postgame Live: Strong Defense Throughout, Offense Comes Alive in Fourth Quarter
The Philadelphia Eagles rode a dominant defensive performance to achieve their sixth straight victory, taking down their divisional rival Washington Commanders.
On the Week 11 edition of “Inside The Birds Postgame Live,” Adam Caplan and Geoff Mosher discussed Thursday night’s 26-18 win.
Jake Elliot
Adam Caplan: “He is really off right now…up until the last two games, he had been fine. The two kicks he had missed were 50+, but then he missed one last week and now tonight was a disaster with the two field goals and the extra point. They have to get this fixed, this is a major problem. They left seven points on the board.”
Geoff Mosher: “All of the misses have been the same, they have been a little bit pushed left. I think that’s better than if he was all over the place because it feels like there is just a little bit of a mechanical adjustment he’ll have to make.”
Saquon Barkley
Mosher: “For the better part of three quarters, Washington had him bottled up, frustrated him and wouldn’t let him get a lane, but this goes back to if you don’t score against the Eagles and keep giving them chances, they are going to break one.”
Caplan: “As much as I think they ran the ball way too much in the first half, something happens in the second half with Barkley where if you keep feeding him, three [yards] becomes seven, seven becomes 20, and it goes on and on.”
Jalen Hurts
Mosher: “When we watch the All-22, Jalen Hurts’ best throws were not always completions. He made a pretty good throw to DeVonta Smith to try to get him on the sideline, I thought he made a really nice third down throw to Jahan Dotson. And then the best throw was the inside skinny post to DeVonta.”
Caplan: “He has to get better with his awareness, it was atrocious in the first half…they have to get him to see it better. If he is significantly better with awareness, this offense is unstoppable.”
Jalen Carter
Mosher: “Man, did Jalen Carter wreck shop…Sam Cosmi is a good right guard. To go up against him is not easy and there were times when Jalen Carter bullied him, bullied the right tackle. He was an absolute menace in this game.”
Caplan: “Carter was unstoppable. He only got credit for the one tackle for loss, but he blows plays up.”
Zack Baun/Nakobe Dean
Caplan: “I have covered this team for almost 27 years, I have never seen anyone come out of nowhere like this. He’s unstoppable. Nakobe Dean, I call him ‘Downhill Dean,’ he is so downhill and decisive. They are an unbelievable tandem.”
Mosher: “The way [Baun] keys and diagnoses and sees the play as it is happening, the first two weeks he wasn’t doing it that great…he has made a ton of mental development and improvement since the first two or three weeks of the season to already go with what Vic (Fangio) saw physically to make him a really impactful linebacker.”
Quinyon Mitchell
Caplan: “Quinyon Mitchell on (Terry) McLauin, my God. Give Howie (Roseman) credit, they got one here.”
