The Philadelphia Eagles defense is in a strong position entering the beginning of the 2026 campaign.

On the latest episode of “Inside the Birds,” Geoff Mosher and Adam Caplan discussed some defensive ‘X’ factors ahead of the start of the regular season.

Jalyx Hunt

Geoff Mosher: “The camp that Jalyx Hunt has had, if that just carries even a little bit into the season and he’s just a little bit improved from last year, then you’re pretty good [at edge rusher without Jonathan Greenard].”

Adam Caplan: “If Hunt is what he became in the second half including the playoffs [last year] when he was phenomenal, then you want to build off that.”

Chance Campbell

Caplan: “If Chance Campbell does not make it, which is realistic, that’s your practice squad player. He knows the system, is athletic, long, Bobby King coached him for a year in Tennessee. They’re good there.”

Mosher: “He’s a really good special teams player, so that would be the reason if they kept five.”

Mac McWilliams

Mosher: “Vic (Fangio) has praised Mac McWilliams a little bit more than I thought he would. I thought he did play decently against the Patriots.”

Caplan: “He’s a physical corner, there are a lot of teams that liked him. He plays bigger than his listed size.”

Michael Carter II

Mosher: “[Vic Fangio] sounds like he’s comfortable right now with what he has seen from Marcus Epps but he likes Carter enough to say if he continues to get reps in practice and throughout the first few weeks of the month and there’s a change to be made or an injury, he’s fine with Michael Carter at safety.”

Caplan: “He’s backup nickel, competing for a safety job, as well as dime safety. He has not played safety since college.”
