Q&A: Eagles Offense Leaves Much to Be Desired

by

The Philadelphia Eagles’ 22-10 victory over the Green Bay Packers, which advanced them to the Divisional Round of the NFL playoffs, still leaves many questions to be answered.

On the latest of episode of “Q&A” on “Inside The Birds,” Jason Avant and Quintin Mikell discussed the Eagles’ Wild Card win.

Secondary

Quintin Mikell: “The entire secondary played lights out. They covered well, drop in their zones well, got their hands on receivers when they needed to.”

Jason Avant: “The Eagles forced them to throw two-or-three- or five-yard passes and then you have to make a guy miss. Doing that the entire game gets frustrating.”

Nakobe Dean

Mikell: “That’s a big hit right there, Nakobe was playing lights out. The quarterback of the defense, smart, intelligent player, plays across the line of scrimmage, downhill. It’s going to be a huge impact…the Rams are definitely going to attack our linebackers. It’s going to be a huge impact losing him.”

Avant: “There was definitely a big drop-off when he went out of the game. I saw Oren Burks take the wrong angle on so many tackles that were routine.”

Nolan Smith Jr.

Avant: “He’s holding up against the run, that was our biggest concern. He had a nice shed of the left tackle in the first few series, beat a guy straight inside but he set it up beforehand with outside rushes. And then when Milton Williams and Jalen Carter win so fast, Jordan Love just ran right into the lap of Nolan Smith.”

Jalen Hurts

Avant: “I’ll give Jalen three throws that could have been open, but most of those incompletions, that was because the Packers knew exactly what the Eagles were going to do.”

Kellen Moore

Mikell: “There’s just no cohesiveness with this scheme. It’s like every week, there is something different.”

Avant: “Kellen Moore lost the battle versus the defensive coordinator this week, flat out. I would have attacked Keisean Nixon a lot more. I didn’t understand certain things they were doing in the passing game. A lot of their concepts were all stop routes, it wasn’t a bunch of stuff where you could get open down the field.”

A.J. Brown

Mikell: “I do feel he’s a little frustrated. He’s battling some injuries and I’m sure he’s a little frustrated he’s not getting the ball. But what I like about what A.J. did was he blocked well.”
