Injury Watch
ITB: State of the Jaguars and the Eagles Ahead of Week 9 Matchup
The surging Philadelphia Eagles are set to take on a struggling Jacksonville Jaguars team, with both teams battling the injury bug.
On the latest edition of “Inside The Birds,” Adam Caplan and Andrew DiCecco discussed the latest injury situation for both teams and identified matchups to watch.
Tyler Steen/Mekhi Becton
DiCecco: “I’m of the belief that Tyler Steen has been a better player at right guard than Mekhi Becton. It was very apparent to me on the second watch of the Bengals game that they have something there with Steen. He moves really well, is playing with a lot more confidence.”
Caplan: “Steen’s first start wasn’t good last year, these two times he has played this year has been really good. Mekhi has come a long way to learn how to play guard on the spot.”
DiCecco: “He has looked really good also, so it’s a good problem to have for the Eagles. For Steen, the last time a lot of folks saw him prior to this season was that Dallas game where he looked overmatched, so to see where has come from then until now, this was a guy that was in the running for a starting job, he didn’t pout, he worked harder and found a way to make sure that he made his next opportunity count.”
Isaiah Rodgers
DiCecco: “He doesn’t take any snap for granted and I think you really see that manifest on the field when he does get his opportunity. He is always looking to make a play, he has very good short area quickness, advanced eye discipline. He doesn’t have the size that you are looking for in an outside corner, but he really makes up for it with his anticipation and reactive skills. That pass breakup that he had, the tip drill to C.J. Gardner-Johnson, really accents his ability to make plays on the football.”
Walker Little
Caplan: “They traded Cam Robinson, their left tackle, who they clearly didn’t want. Walker Little is in the final year of his rookie deal, he is a big dude, a mauler, he’s going to play left tackle.”
Ronald Darby
DiCecco: “He’s a player that the Eagles should be able to feast on. He does have the quickness and is a very fast player, but he is also somebody that isn’t very technically savy, he doesn’t play with great fundamentals. That’s a player I expect the Eagles to target early and often.”
