ITB Postgame Live: Eagles Offense Coming Together Nicely

by

The Philadelphia Eagles are flying high after their third straight victory, taking down the Cincinnati Bengals on the road.

On the Week 8 edition of “Inside The Birds Postgame Live,” Adam Caplan, Geoff Mosher, and Andrew DiCecco discussed the biggest takeaways from the 37-17 win.

DeVonta Smith

Jalen Hurts

Adam Caplan: “Hurts was a star, this was arguably his best game of the season…Hurts was very efficient, made some really good throws, hung in there. His running was fantastic today.”

Geoff Mosher: “It looked like they tried to get him going against the Bengals defense.”

Andrew DiCecco: “You saw a lot of good from Jalen Hurts, his best game of the season. Pivotal passes to DeVonta Smith and A.J. Brown, that connection was there.”

DeVonta Smith

Mosher: “Whenever you see DeVonta Smith have a game like he did against the Giants where he has one target, an almost absent-like game, it’s almost as if the Eagles really try hard the following week to make sure his appetite gets wet and then you look at the end of the game and he led the Eagles in targets, receptions, receiving yards, and caught the only receiving touchdown.”

Caplan: “We knew it was coming, they have done that before.”

Fred Johnson

Mosher: “Fred Johnson had the circle around him coming back to Cincinnati. He needed some help against the Giants after a rough first quarter, but he had a full week of starting under him. It felt like if the Eagles were going to do well offensively, he was going to have to be an important player to hold his own and he did.”

Caplan: “He has his feet under him now, he knows what you have to do on that side. He got better, I thought he really held his own.”

Nolan Smith

DiCecco: “For him to get into the backfield for the third consecutive week is a really encouraging sign, he is rushing with more power, using his hands a lot better, and I think he is starting to really build some confidence there.”

Turnovers

Mosher: “That’s an underrated thing, the two turnovers. The Eagles have not produced a lot of turnovers lately. It’s great they haven’t been turning over the ball, but if you want to win games in the NFL against good teams, you have to make turnovers on defense as well. Maybe the Bengals woke up the sleeping lion and the Eagles can start producing them.”

Caplan: “If you get to the quarterback, you force the guy to make a bad throw, rush himself. You saw with (Joe) Burrow he started to struggle a little bit in the second half, they started to get to him on a little bit of a late blitz. Turnovers come when pressure the quarterback, you have to get more pressure.”
