Several Starters Ruled out of Christmas Matchup

Despite a full week of practice, cornerback Avonte Maddox will have to wait at least one more week for his return.

Maddox (pectoral) has been ruled out of the Christmas Day matchup against the New York Giants along with cornerback Darius Slay (knee) and left guard Landon Dickerson (knee).

Eagles CB Avonte Maddox will have to wait at least another week to return despite full participation in practice.

At guard, it will likely be Sua Opeta making his second straight start, this time on the left side of the field.

Wide receiver DeVonta Smith (knee) is set to play after returning to practice in a limited fashion.

Starting linebackers Zach Cunningham (knee) and Nic Morrow (abdomen) both missed the entire week of practice, but have different game designations. Cunningham has been ruled out while Morrow is questionable.

If Morrow is out along with Cunningham, it will be Shaquille Leonard and Ben VanSumeren in their place. Leonard has just two weeks with the team under his belt while VanSumeren has yet to play a defensive snap. With Cunningham missing the previous week, the Eagles used more dime and big nickel packages with only one linebacker and Sydney Brown in at safety.

The only other off-ball linebacker within the organization is Brandon Smith, a 2022 fourth round pick for the Carolina Panthers who found his way to the Eagles practice squad in October.

For the Giants, they will be without starting right tackle Evan Neal (ankle) and defensive lineman Rakeem Nunez-Roches (knee). Star d-lineman Dexter Lawrence (hamstring) is questionable after practicing on a limited basis on Saturday.
