Maddox 21-Day Window Activated; Jurgens Practicing Fully

More help is on the way for a Philadelphia Eagles secondary that has thrown the kitchen sink but has yet to find a solution for their struggles.

The Eagles officially opened the 21-day practice window for cornerback Avonte Maddox, who participated fully in Thursday’s practice.

Maddox played in the first two games of 2023 before being placed on injured reserve with a torn pec, creating a void in the nickel position that was filled by multiple players including Bradley Roby, Sydney Brown, and Eli Ricks.

Thursday’s injury report, the first ahead of Week 16’s Christmas day matchup against the New York Giants, also lists starting right guard Cam Jurgens (pec) as practicing fully. Jurgens had missed Week 15 against the Seattle Seahawks.

Jurgens’ return will help the Eagles avoid missing both starting guards. Landon Dickerson (thumb), who underwent surgery, did not participate in practice and will likely miss at least the upcoming week.

Also missing Thursday’s practice were both starting linebackers: Zach Cunningham (knee) and Nic Morrow (abdomen). Cunningham missed the Seahawks matchup while Morrow played 100% of the snaps.

Cornerback Darius Slay (knee), recovering from surgery, did not participate in practice in addition to wide receiver DeVonta Smith (knee), who has sparingly missed practices throughout the seasons but has played fully in every game of the season.
