Best NFL Team
Quintin Mikell: “Just a complete package: coaching, they have depth, they have special teams, Jalen (Hurts) hitting on all cylinders, a running game, offensive line that’s dominating, defensive line dominating, linebackers flying around, DBs putting hands on people, getting into route lanes, covering, lockdown corners. Just across the board, this team is the team to beat.”
Jason Avant: “The word you said that stood out to me is depth. There are times in the last few games where Darius Slay goes out and you don’t necessarily notice. Our lineman Landon Dickerson went out, Tyler Steen comes in and plays, it was still serviceable…Fred Johnson comes into the game, Saquon (Barkley) goes out and (Kenny) Gainwell plays unbelievable, Dallas Goedert is out and Grant Calcaterra comes in.”
Defensive Line
Mikell: “The defensive front must have gotten challenged [in practice] this week because they knew…from the outset of this game, this defensive line controlled the line of scrimmage, penetrating, physical, getting their hands on offensive linemen, getting off blocks, flying around to the ball.”
Avant: “I think it’s the middle push that changes the game because that’s the most uncomfortable a quarterback is going to be when you have Milton Williams and Jalen Carter pushing the pocket…you also have smaller pash rushers on the outside that play right into their hands.”
Pass Coverage
Mikell: “The addition of Cooper (DeJean) at the nickel position, Quinyon (Mitchell) stepping in and getting better and better each week, Reed (Blankenship) stepping in and playing smart, confident football.”
Jalen Hurts
Avant: “The Steelers are super vanilla on the backend and Jalen was able to get the ball out to a target right away. He was on target, on time, and when those two things happen it equals yards after catch.”
