Good Enough?
Q&A: Eagles Still Have Issues to Address Despite Win
The Philadelphia Eagles returned to their winning ways against the Cleveland Browns, but many of their issues still persist.
On the latest edition of “Q&A” on “Inside The Birds,” former Eagles standouts Quintin Mikell and Jason Avant gave their biggest takeaways from the Week 6 victory.
Nick Sirianni
Quintin Mikell: “To me, this is him being himself. He didn’t look like himself earlier in the year…going out there talking trash, firing guys up, it seems like he’s getting back to his comfort zone, something to get this team going.”
Jason Avant: “You can’t beat the fans. That’s a losing battle everywhere in the United States of America. At some point, you as the coach have to take the high road. Nick Sirianni shows at times that he doesn’t always have control of his emotions…if you dish it out, you have to be able to take it, so when the media comes in and asks you questions about it, answer it straight up.”
Offense
Avant: “All of those [big] plays were man-to-man in a one-on-one situation, it wasn’t reading the defense. I’m uncertain about how good the offense really is because I need to see it against a more complex defense.”
Jalen Hurts
Avant: “Jalen didn’t turn the ball over. You give yourself a fighting chance in that.”
Cooper DeJean
Mikell: “One player can make a huge difference and that is what I saw from Cooper DeJean. I wish he could have been playing from the beginning of the season just watching him. He still has some stuff to learn, but you can tell he was well coached at Iowa. He played the game with a lot of poise, he played close to the ball, he has speed, he can cover, but the most important thing he did was he was where he needed to be when he was playing zone.”
Avant: “I was impressed by his game…I’m still waiting for the man-to-man matchups, when he has to line up versus a vertical slot that can run just as well as he can run.”
