ITB: Latest Injury Intel
After returning from the bye week with a fully healthy roster, the injury bug has bitten the Philadelphia Eagles yet again.
On the latest episode of “Inside The Birds,” Geoff Mosher and Adam Caplan provided intel on the latest injuries to the team’s starters and potential replacements.
Jordan Mailata
Geoff Mosher: “Mailata will be out, he was called week-to-week with a hamstring injury. It’s never good when you see a tackle leaving on crutches.”
Fred Johnson
Caplan: “The thing about Fred Johnson is he has done a great job in the two games where he came off the bench but asking him to start a game that’s, to me, a lot. The other option is to move (Mekhi) Becton over there.”
Mosher: “Because Fred Johnson has practiced more at left tackle with the Eagles than at right tackle and you are putting him back at his comfortable spot, the Eagles have wanted to avoid in the past weakening two positions by moving one, but we have seen already this year that they have done it when (Cam) Jurgens went out and (Landon) Dickerson moved to center, so maybe there is something to that of getting your best five on the field, but you gave Johnson a contract extension, he’s here as your top backup left tackle. If you don’t use him, then that shows you really don’t have faith on him, then why is he on your team?”
Darius Slay
Caplan: “The word we got is he is considered questionable. We are not going to know until later in the week. Out of 64 starting outside corners, he is the oldest, nearly 34-years-old.”
Isaiah Rodgers/Kelee Ringo
Caplan: “Rodgers saw almost all of the snaps [in Slay’s absence]. Ringo only saw six. Rodgers runs better, is a more fluid athlete, but he is much smaller, Ringo’s longer. Rodgers is the smart money, but it’s not a lock, they’ll have to get through practice this week and they’ll get a better idea.”
Mosher: “I wonder if there is any rotation Vic (Fangio) would have in mind because Rodgers is going to give up a little bit of height and size to guys like (Darius) Slayton and (Malik) Naber. Ringo is stiffer and you definitely don’t want him man-on-man too much but he is also more physical.”
Dallas Goedert
Mosher: “It felt like such a one step forward, two steps back type of deal to get your wide receivers back and then lose Dallas Goedert that early…Goedert does a lot for them even that doesn’t impact the stat sheet.”
Grant Calcaterra
Mosher: “Calcaterra made some nice plays. He was wide open twice, one of them was off play action…he did contribute and they did try to decoy him a couple of times as an in-line blocker without actually having to use him as a blocker.”
Caplan: “Calcaterra can run, he’s an athlete. He saw 92% of the offensive snaps.”
