Tale of the Tape

ITB: Strong Enough Performances from Eagles Offense, Defense Leads to Blowout Win

by

The Philadelphia Eagles had a comfortable 28-3 victory over the divisional rival New York Giants, but does the tape show sustainable dominance?

On the latest episode of “Inside The Birds,” Geoff Mosher and Adam Caplan gave their biggest takeaways from the film of Week 7’s win.

Geoff Mosher: “We have seen how hard it is for players nowadays with the new [concussion] protocol to be able to come back in a week. The positive is Tyler Steen went in there again and held his own, so maybe the drop off isn’t that bad.”

Adam Caplan: “After the game, he was feeling well enough to greet all of the players outside the locker room.”

Run Game

Mosher: “I don’t think I have ever seen a game that observing how it unfolded has never been so different than the actual final score…the Eagles ran for 269 yards and averaged six yards-per-carry, but if you were to ask most coaches if they think the Eagles ran the ball efficiently and had a good running game, they would say no. They ran the ball sporadically amazingly, three or four runs just completely changed the average and dynamic of the run game.”

Caplan: “This season, Barkley has had a bunch of one, two, three yard runs and then he’ll break one for 55…we also know that he is getting to the second level better.”

Passing Game

Mosher: “The pass offense is a work in progress. It’s okay to say that, the coaches will tell you it’s not where they want to be…Jalen Hurts’ 10-of-14 ignores the fact that he got sacked five times or he had a run and took a big hit where there are openings.”

Caplan: “If we have a list of the best downfield throwers, Hurts is certainly top three. But I don’t understand the unwillingness to throw the ball over the middle. He won’t do it, it’s why (Dallas) Goedert’s numbers are never what they should be.”

Nolan Smith

Mosher: “The sack that he had was an absolute speed-to-power type of rush. We’re not in the position to start judging who he is getting sacks against, we are looking for development in key areas.”
