How the Eagles Roster Stacks Up Entering '24

The Philadelphia Eagles enter Week 1 with a much-improved roster, but is it enough to vault them back into Super Bowl contention?

On the latest episode of “Inside The Birds,” Adam Caplan and Andrew DiCecco dove into the state of the team’s roster ahead of the 2024 season opener and discussed the team’s most recent practice squad signings.

Kyle Phillips

Andrew DiCecco: “He only has 23 catches, he can help you in the return game…I liked him at the Senior Bowl, good short area quickness, but he’s just very small…You get him on the practice squad, he gives interesting looks for the scout team and you’re able to see what you have there.”

Adam Caplan: “He got caught up in the numbers game, he was also drafted by the former general manager for the Titans so this staff wasn’t around when he was drafted.”

Jack Driscoll

DiCecco: “You already have Brett Toth and Nick Gates on the practice squad, but now you’re getting someone who gives you right tackle and guard versatility. It really just makes you stronger in all areas. Bringing back a familiar face who gives you a competent level of production and has some experience was probably the way they were leaving.”

Caplan: “He has positional versatility, he’s a guy they know really well. Driscoll felt, based on numbers, that he had no chance to ever start here. He was hopeful to compete for a starting job [with the Miami Dolphins] but it just ended up never happening. He’s back, it gives them better depth.”

Jahan Dotson

DiCecco: “He just got here a couple of weeks ago. This is not an easy offense to learn, you saw a lot of these guys had from spring through training camp to learn it. He has had a crash course for the last few weeks, he has spent a lot of time with Aaron Moorehead. He’s putting in a lot of hours in, coming in early and staying late. He’s in the building a ton.”

DeVonta Smith

DiCecco: “The creativity, the motion, the ability to move DeVonta Smith, I think he can really threaten from the slot a lot this season. I even think he may have a better season in terms of output than A.J. Brown.”

Bryce Huff

DiCecco: “There has been practices where Bryce Huff has looked dominant at times, against the Patriots in the joint practice. But then there are times in one-on-ones where he gets shut down. There is too many times where he does not affect the quarterback or affect the play.”

Caplan: “Asking Huff to be a full-time player is going to be tough. He has never done it as an NFL player.”

DiCecco: “He plays with good leverage, good hand usage, and he is very powerful moving forward. He has a sturdy base. But you’d like to see him become more of a consistent player rep-to-rep.”

Moro Ojomo

Caplan: “Ojomo has been a good story. He is long, there is a lot to like about him.”

DiCecco: “Another guy who I thought arguably had one of the better training camps. I kept writing down number 97 in my notebook. You see the violent hands, the ability to play with leverage, the explosiveness off the snap. He’s just playing with a lot more power and aggressiveness when he was trying to find his way.”
