‘Best Since Reggie White?’
Q&A: Highs and Lows from Latest Eagles Win
A lot is going right for the Philadelphia Eagles during their six-game winning streak, but there still may be areas to improve upon.
On the latest edition of “Q&A” on “Inside The Birds” former Eagles standouts Jason Avant and Quintin Mikell offered their biggest takeaways from the team’s Week 11 victory over the Washington Commanders and identified areas of improvement.
Jalen Carter
Jason Avant: “His ability to rush the passer is special. He had a lot of one-on-ones, was shooting gaps left and right, his game that he played was unbelievable. He didn’t get a sack, but he forced a lot and had seven tackles from the defensive tackle position which is unheard of.”
Quintin Mikell: “He’s just unique, has a unique combination of size, power, and technical skill and explosiveness that I don’t think I have seen in a long time. His hand movement, his side-to-side, his ability to swim, that stuff is not easy.”
Avant: “Carter is going to be the best defensive player that we have had since Reggie White. That’s if he continues to stay the course and work at it. A player like him that’s ultra talented, the only person that can stop him is himself.”
Quinyon Mitchell
Avant: “If you are a guy that doesn’t get open on time, you’re not getting the ball from [Jayden Daniels] and that’s what Quinyon did in that game, mainly throwing off their timing. If it was a different quarterback, Terry McLaurin would have gotten more passes. I don’t know if it was true lockdown, but for this game it was lockdown.”
Mikell: “He plays really good zone coverage, but I do feel like he can be a man corner. He’s unique in that sense that he can do both. He’s still young and has some things to learn…but he’s playing lights out, shutting people down.”
Offense
Avant: “I think our first 15 [plays] suck. There are multiple plays within our first 15 that don’t make sense to me because they didn’t have options…I don’t understand why at the beginning of the game we are so balanced. We were 70/30 pass-run. The team that has been winning these games have been 60/40 run-pass.”
Saquon Barkley
Mikell: “He definitely is an MVP candidate. I don’t think he’ll win it because there’s a guy up the road in Baltimore playing lights out.”
