Maddox To Safety?
Practice Report: DB Picture Uncertain
PHILADELPHIA – Avoiding the bustling winds ripping through the Delaware Valley, the Eagles on Thursday moved practice indoors. And with only one practice remaining before Sunday’s game against the Panthers, there were several notable takeaways.
Returning to practice, in some capacity, was wide receiver/punt returner Britain Covey (neck), who was sidelined Wednesday. Assuming Covey continues on this trajectory, the third-year pro will reprise his normal duties.
The news wasn’t as good, however, for Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert (knee) and safeties Reed Blankenship (concussion) and Sydney Brown (knee), as all three were sidelined for the second consecutive day.
A couple things worth noting: Blankenship emerged for the final five minutes or so open to the media, standing off to the side and wearing a sweatshirt.
Veteran defensive back Avonte Maddox worked with safeties this afternoon, alongside C.J. Gardner-Johnson, Tristin McCollum and rookie Andre’ Sam. Assuming things continue to trend in this direction, expect Maddox to serve as the No. 3 safety Sunday, with McCollum getting the start.
Also, look for Sam, who has spent the entirety of the season on the Eagles’ practice squad, to potentially garner his first elevation of the season.
In positive news, cornerback Darius Slay and wide receiver DeVonta Smith were both present and practice participants.
