Sydney’s Back
Birds Activate 2nd-Year S To 53
The Eagles’ roster is now back to 53, with the team on Saturday afternoon announcing the activation of second-year safety Sydney Brown to the active roster.
While the defense could certainly benefit from Brown’s energy and physicality, the most likely scenario for him Sunday at MetLife Stadium against the Giants will be undertaking a prominent role on special teams, as he adapts and works his way into an expanded role on defense.
Brown, who opened the season on the team’s physically unable to perform list as he worked his way back from a late-season ACL injury, saw his 21-day practice window opened on Oct. 7.
His first official practice occurred two days later, and he was listed as a full participant last week in all three practices.

Still, for someone who hadn’t practiced in a team setting since January — despite moving around well and appearing ready — Brown needed more time to immerse himself in coordinator Vic Fangio’s defense and work himself back into playing shape.
The Eagles instead opted to sign wide receiver Parris Campbell to the 53-man roster to fill the void created by the departure of linebacker Devin White.
Perhaps most remarkable of Brown’s road to recovery was his positive attitude and optimism surrounding his first major setback. Through it all, he remained determined to beat his recovery timeline, though when Brown spoke last week, he admitted to patience being the most challenging aspect of his predicament.
And even on the days in which he didn’t feel like digging in and rehabbing, he had Eagles senior athletic trainer Jerome Reid to hold him accountable and challenge him. Reid had worked closely with Brown over the past eight months.
But for Brown, who tends to view the glass as half-full, he embraced his circumstance with a positive mentality.
“With anything in life, I think if you do have positive energy, you’ll have a positive attitude and you will have positive outcomes,” he said. “And I think that’s exactly why I dominated this entire process.”
Also, the Eagles elevated OT Jack Driscoll from the practice squad for the second straight week, leaving Driscoll with just one elevation remaining after the game.
