‘Time To Go’
Sirianni Optimistic About Second-Year Safety's Timetable
How soon can Eagles safety Sydney Brown make an impact?
Head coach Nick Sirianni on Wednesday hinted that the second-year safety “is ready to start going” as the team came back from the bye and opened the 21-day window for Brown, who is recovering from a torn ACL in last year’s regular-season finale.
“Our trainers and doctors have said he’s ready, it’s time to go,” Sirianni said before practice, which the Eagles conducted in pads. “Sydney has, man, he has attacked this with such a positive attitude.”

Sirianni stopped well short of providing playing time details for Brown, who will remain in the practice window until the team makes a decision on his fate.
They can add him to the 53-man roster at any time in the three-week window – and recently opened a spot by releasing linebacker Devin White – but if they don’t activate him after the 21 days, Brown would go on season-ending Injured Reserve.
Sure sounds like Brown will be on the field sooner than later.
“Obviously you guys know he’s practicing and we’ll see how he looks,” Sirianni said. “But he’s looked good on the side there. But now it’s different because you’re changing direction with bodies around and all those different things.”
Brown could be a needed boost to an inconsistent defense that’s struggled to tackle and with assignments, especially on the back end.
Last year, as a rookie, the former Illinois standout who was drafted in the third round played in some three-safety personnel groupings also known as “big nickel.”
The starters at safety remain C.J. Gardner Johnson and Reed Blankenship, with Tristin McCollum as the top backup.
