‘Super Accurate’
ITB: Intel from Recent Camp Practices
Major developments are beginning to take shape for a revamped Philadelphia Eagles team.
On the latest episode of “Inside The Birds,” Adam Caplan and Geoff Mosher provided intel on the most recent training camp practices.
Jalen Hurts
Geoff Mosher: “There has been a decent amount of connections with Jalen Hurts. The Hurts to DeVonta Smith connection was on fire the other day, earlier it was to A.J. Brown. It’s always good when you have the quarterback and his top two receivers in a new offense gelling from the start.”
Caplan: “Hurts has been really good…You can tell by the way he is running that he looks healthy. He has been super accurate, is processing way better.
Wide Receivers
Adam Caplan: “Saturday should have been called the 11 personnel practice. Almost everything was 11 personnel. (Parris) Campbell is clearly the number three, there has been no competition there. Johnny Wilson is clearly the four right now, but he is lining up inside a lot.”
Grant Calcaterra
Mosher: “The word I had gotten on Calcaterra is that he is taking the next step. They were probably looking for that last year, but Jack Stoll was the number two. Now he is getting more chances in an offense that can probably cater to his skillset if it is going to be more spread, more flex, and more uptempo.”
Caplan: “He looks good, but he has to be able to block.”
Cam Jurgens
Mosher: “I have been told his movement is really good. They drafted Jurgens because he was an incredible athlete coming out of Nebraska. He is now from right guard to center, it is a whole lot of different responsibilities as far as where you are kicking out.”
Linebackers
Mosher: “Nakobe Dean, Devin White, and Zack Baun are the three guys getting the most looks. What do they all have in common? They are all more pass rushers. The answers to the test are there.”
Caplan: “Coaches love inside backers who can rush. Based on the snaps, White clearly had the most. Dean had an unreal blitz that basically shut the play down…They are trying all sorts of combinations situationally.”
Secondary
Mosher: “There have been all sorts of combinations. One day is (Isaiah) Rodgers starting, one day it is (Kelee) Ringo, it could be Quinyon Mitchell pretty soon because he has taken some first team subpackage reps both inside and outside.”
Caplan: “[Mitchell] played dime linebacker, he played some slot…Ringo gave up a couple of big plays but he was right there, Rodgers is very competitive, he can really run, (Eli) Ricks got some run with the twos…(James) Bradberry has only played at safety so far.”
Mosher: “Bradberry talked about how the move to safety was his idea, but you can’t make the team as a fourth safety being a $13 million a year 33-year-old player who is not playing on special teams. He has to be good enough at safety to be a starter.”
