ITB Postgame Live: Pass Rush, Receivers Absent in Week 4 Loss

by

Major flaws for the Philadelphia Eagles were once again exposed in the team’s 33-16 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

On the Week 4 edition of “Inside The Birds Postgame Live,” Adam Caplan and Geoff Mosher discussed the biggest issues plaguing the team heading into the bye week.

Secondary

Geoff Mosher: “They have the talent in the backend to do better than this, but when you look at it today, you have to have some questions about (Darius) Slay…Quinyon Mitchell is a rookie making rookie mistakes, Avonte Maddox is a guy that has been picked on considerably, Reed Blankenship got picked on today, and C.J. Gardner-Johnson, this guy used to be a playmaker.”

Pass Rush

Adam Caplan: “They got nothing on Mayfield…When you can’t get home, it puts so much on your secondary. I don’t care how deep you are at corner.”

Nickel

Mosher: “You could start to play a different nickel if you felt Cooper DeJean was going to be an upgrade over (Avonte) Maddox, I don’t know that he is but you drafted him in the second round and he has now been about six weeks removed from injury. And you have a week of bye and another week of practice to see what happens with Sydney Brown.”

Caplan: “It’s not like they have to play Maddox every nickel snap. They can slowly work DeJean in, see how he handles it.”

Jahan Dotson

Mosher: “The reason why you give up a third-round pick for Jahan Dotson is because you in your mind think this is a higher-caliber player than what he showed in Washington and is going to come in here and help be in an important role…that receiver who can fill in for you if you have injuries at the outside spot. Right now he is absent in this offense.”

Caplan: “He has been a non-factor. He’s another guy for the bye who has to get himself together.”
