‘Starts With Coaching’

ITB Postgame: Eagles Fail to Show Up

by

The Philadelphia Eagles are still searching for answers after another embarrassment in primetime on the way to their sixth consecutive loss.

On the Week 8 edition of “Inside The Birds Postgame,” Geoff Mosher and Adam Caplan talked the biggest issues from the team’s 27-10 defeat at the hands of the Washington Commanders.

Offensive Line

Geoff Mosher: “The Eagles have really struggled this year against that teams that put a lot of guys on the line of scrimmage and disguise their five- and six-man rushes and they did it again. First week of Markel Bell and new guys, I get it. But now you have Landon Dickerson and Drew Kendall, they can still not figure out how to block up a disguised blitz.”

Adam Caplan: “You have a rookie tackle…they want him to be the right tackle of the future, and he has to play better in the details. A false start, you can’t have…When they overload, which teams are doing now because they know Bell is a rookie and he shouldn’t be out there…There are too many times where you go, ‘wait a minute, this is a coaching issue.’”

Tight End

Caplan: “You have Johnny Mundt who is clearly near the end of his career. From a front office standpoint, you didn’t bring another ‘Y’ tight end in here. You need another one. They’re just not working players out.”

Defensive Line

Mosher: “[The Commanders] combined for 130 rushing yards, come on, against a healthy defensive front for the Eagles. Maybe (Jonathan) Greenard is still hurt, but the bottom line is (Jordan) Davis is fine, (Jalen) Carter is fine, you have Nolan Smith playing out there, Moro Ojomo is out there, you just got embarrassed.”

Caplan: “It can’t be just Carter’s wrist. I know Clint Hurtt is a fantastic coach, one of the best defensive lines in the league, but it’s on him too. It starts with coaching, always has and always will.”

Vic Fangio

Mosher: “Vic Fangio should not go uncriticized in this. He is not doing anything to generate a pass rush. When he does rush the passer, it’s the same thing we always see: it’s either a sim [pressure] or a five-man rush. He’s not really doing anything that differently.”

Caplan: “I’m just stunned at the lack of pass rush. Every once in a while, they have a good quality rush, but (Jayden) Daniels had plenty of time to make good throws.”
