ITB: Could Eagles Become Sellers at the Deadline?

by

With the trade deadline less than two weeks away, major decisions will have to be made for a slumping Philadelphia Eagles’ roster.

On the latest episode of “Inside The Birds,” Geoff Mosher and Adam Caplan discussed current contract situations of offensive skill players and whether they can be moved.

Jalen Hurts

Geoff Mosher: “As he gets healthier with the blood thinners, what has to happen is they have to make sure that they understand that was a provoked situation and not something that will be recurring with him. If he gets more blood clots, especially in the lungs, for most athletes that is game over.”

Adam Caplan: “Medically, they have to get through it, we wish Jalen the best. He is signed through 2028. Next year, the total cash is $51.5 million, $22 million is fully guaranteed.”

Saquon Barkley

Mosher: “If the losing continues and you get closer to the deadline, even if you win both games and you’re 4-5, I can’t see Howie (Roseman) just turning down offers just to compete for an NFC East. If he gets something good for Saquon Barkley, like Cam Jurgens, he’d probably make the deal.”

Caplan: “Barkley is signed through 2028, the total cash for next season is $16 million, $2.5 million is fully guaranteed. The cash this season is just under $17 million, but it’s prorated.”

Dontayvion Wicks

Caplan: “Before his ankle injury, a really good story. He’s signed through 2027, has just over $9 million in cash due next season, only $2 million is guaranteed. Had he not got hurt, you could say the Eagles got a bargain.”

Mosher: “He’ll be an interesting one if the phone rings before the deadline…If you’re having a fire sale, I like Wicks but you can find a Wicks.”

Caplan: “I would think they wouldn’t do it. Unless they’re getting at least a third, no one’s giving up a third for this guy…In the future, unless they get a dominant ‘Y’ tight end, they’re going to be a heavy 11 personnel team.”

Johnny Mundt

Caplan: “They missed on Johnny Mundt, there’s a reason why Jacksonville cut him. You have to be wary when a team like that gets rid of their blocking tight end because they don’t think he can play anymore.”

Mosher: “On top of being a one-dimensional player, now he’s starting to decline at the one dimension that he’s good.”
