ITB: Which Players Can Boost Their Stock in the Preseason?

by

The preseason will offer a chance for players both young and old to earn a spot on the Philadelphia Eagles’ 2024 roster.

On the latest episode of “Inside The Birds,” Geoff Mosher and Adam Caplan named players to watch in the opening preseason matchup against the Baltimore Ravens.

Ainias Smith

Adam Caplan: “You never know what happens when it is really live, maybe he is just not a good enough practice player or is having concentration issues and needs to be in a game issue. This is a guy that a lot of people before and after the draft were high on, gadget plays, all sorts of fassets to his game that people like, but the drops have to be cleaned up.”

Geoff Mosher: “He can have a Patrick Robinson-like turnaround and really seize hold if he can catch the ball and show what he can do because if you were to pick the most natural slot receiver who can do both and give you everything you need out of the slot, it would be him.”

E.J. Jenkins

Mosher: “I don’t know if he can force C.J. Uzomah off the roster, he would have to be amazing, but he is a bigger guy and is already doing a nice job of catching the ball. He is one I am watching in the preseason. I don’t care if he catches any balls, I care when they run out of certain personnel formations, does he throw his body in there? Is he a capable blocker?”

Caplan: “Former receiver who converted to tight end, he is a big dude. He does turn 26 in November, but he has an opportunity here. If they only keep two on the 53, they will have two on the practice squad. He’s worth developing.”

Brett Toth

Mosher: “If you would have told me going into camp that both (Mekhi) Becton and (Tyler) Steen were unavailable and Toth was going to be the guy that gets in at right guard, that’s pretty interesting. We know Jeff Stoutland likes him and that he’s versatile enough to play all three positions on the offensive line. This is a guy who has struggled at times in camp snapping the ball at center. It’s not like he has jumped out in any way but he’s getting the opportunity.”

Caplan: “Stoutland will not give up on this one. Toth has a very good chance to play a lot, if not start this game.”

Jeremiah Trotter Jr.

Mosher: “He may have the best coverage instincts out of all of [the inside linebackers], but he lacks the measurables. But like T.J. Edwards, if you’re playing smart football, know where you are supposed to be, and are fundamentally sound, which Trotter has shown to be so far, then you will get on the field.”

Caplan: “It wouldn’t stun me at all if he winds up starting at some point this season.

James Bradberry

Mosher: “We’ll see what James Bradberry has learned and what he can do [at safety]. I imagine he’ll play the preseason game and get some reps.”

Caplan: “He ran with the ones this week when (C.J.) Gardner-Johnson wasn’t there.”
