ITB: Intel Behind the Eagles Practice Squad

by

The initial 53-man roster for the 2024 Philadelphia Eagles has been set, but the 17-man practice squad offers them a chance for unique manuvering.

On the latest episode of “Inside The Birds,” Geoff Mosher and Adam Caplan gave intel on the team’s practice squad as well as potential roster moves that could happen before Week 1.

Jack Stoll

Brett Toth

Geoff Mosher: “We felt like (Dylan) McMahon just wasn’t ready to be a backup center no matter what. (Nick) Gates we felt you could terminate and sign on the practice squad. Toth was the guy who played all three positions…it just felt like a (Jeff) Stoutland special. We can tell you he was surprised to not be on the 53 when all was said and done.”

Adam Caplan: “He has been here so many years. He was the backup center for most of training camp, so what we learned was just because a guy is the first backup at a position, if a guy doesn’t look good enough, they’ll just jimmy rig it, (Nick) Gates would likely be that guy they call up.”

Jack Stoll

Caplan: “The word we got was despite him turning down the Eagles and signing with the Giants, the Eagles had offered him. He had a good relationship with teammates and tight ends as we understand. He’s back, they badly needed a backup Y tight end.”

Mosher: “You know they are going to elevate a third tight end. I think it will be Jack Stoll, but if it was E.J. Jenkins, I wouldn’t be totally shocked.”

Caden Sterns

Caplan: “Now there’s no rush if it takes him two months to get the knee right coming back from the patellar tendon injury which is worse than an ACL injury…I don’t know if Sterns will be called up this year.”

James Bradberry

Mosher: “We have to be on that James Bradberry watch until [a release or trade] happens. It’s going to look very weird when you have an inactive player making $13 million a year. You can’t do anything about it, now.”
