ITB Postgame Live: Elite Showing from Eagles in All Phases

by

The Philadelphia Eagles laid many of their concerns to rest on the way to their 10th straight victory.

On the Week 15 edition of “Inside The Birds Postgame Live,” Geoff Mosher and Adam Caplan discussed standouts from the 27-13 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

GETTY IMAGES: Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts put on a strong showing in the win over the Pittsburgh Steelers after criticisms of his recent performances.

Linebackers

Geoff Mosher: “I think the linebackers (Zack) Baun and (Nakobe) Dean stood out. The Steelers didn’t have a bunch of long runs…early on it was tough sledding and then every time (Russell) Wilson tried to throw a screen or something quick in the flat, it felt like Dean or Baun or even Cooper DeJean were quick to the ball.”

Nolan Smith Jr.

Adam Caplan: “Nolan Smith is getting way better. He’s still not the pass rusher that they thought he would be, but he’s getting better with it. He had an absolutely awesome sack.”

Jake Elliot

Mosher: “Elliot’s confidence was not wavered at all…He made the two [field goals], then he makes the third but then there’s the penalty so it gives them a first down, but they don’t do anything with the ball and the next thing you know he’s kicking the exact same field goal. He sneaked it inside the left side of the goal post.”

Jalen Hurts

Mosher: “Some of his best throws were when the rush was coming and then he checked down…I want to give him a lot of credit for those kind of plays and then other ones just getting the ball out of his hand quickly. But as the game settled in, you did start to see him hold onto the ball a little bit.”

Caplan: “The key to him is not bailing. You have to hang in there in the case of pressure. Even sometimes when he moved a little bit to the right, he didn’t throw it out of bounds. Not only did he keep the play alive, he maintained his downfield focus and threw it…Hurts was absolutely phenomenal today.”
