Built to Last?
ITB: Evaluating Eagles' Depth Needs on Offense
While the Philadelphia Eagles’ starting offense is in place for the 2025 season, there is always room to add depth.
On the latest episode of “Inside The Birds,” Adam Caplan and Geoff Mosher identified spots of need on offense.
Backup Center
Adam Caplan: “You don’t want to really use Landon Dickerson unless you absolutely have to…Drew Kendall is really a center who can play guard if you absolutely need him to. Physically, he’s built to be a center…There’s really no one else.”
Geoff Mosher: “In training camp, you have a third and a fourth string at times. Who’s taking that responsibility? They don’t have someone who naturally slides in there. For competition and depth, we’re probably going to see one more guy added to this line before the start of training camp who has the ability to snap the ball.”
Running Back
Mosher: “Even with the addition of A.J. Dillon and the guys they brought in as undrafted free agents, they still don’t have the guy to play that role that Kenny Gainwell did unless overnight Will Shipley develops into a really good pass protector.”
Caplan: “They don’t need another back. Barkley’s the starter, Dillon should be the two, Shipley’s the three, Avery Williams is in the running back room…if they want to sign someone, who goes?”
Wide Receiver
Caplan: “If A.J. Brown is out for three or four weeks, Johnny Wilson doesn’t run well enough. Terrace Marshall can be a backup ‘X,’ but do you really want him to be the backup ‘X’ being that he’s on his third team? You’d like to have someone who has more playing experience.”
