Barkley’s Bite

ITB Postgame Live: Eagles Offense Comes Alive in Week 1 Thriller

by

Despite an uneven defensive performance, the Philadelphia Eagles rode their revitalized offense to return to their winning ways, heading home from Brazil after a 34-29 victory over the Green Bay Packers.

On the 2024 Week 1 edition of “Inside The Birds Postgame Live,” Geoff Mosher, Adam Caplan, and Andrew DiCecco broke down the team’s season opening victory.

Saquon Barkley

Saquon Barkley

Mosher: “Saquon Barkley is not just the MVP for the nice wheel route catch, for the nice long touchdowns, he’s MVP because he jumped on that fumble on the last drive. That was unbelievable to not lose possession in that moment.”

DiCecco: “You see what Saquon Barkley can bring to the offense when everything is firing on all cylinders. I thought he had a really good game.”

Kellen Moore

Adam Caplan: “Kellen Moore called a great game. I loved the mixture of run and pass throughout the game…The execution for the most part was really good. The presnap motion, putting (Jalen) Hurts under center. This is the most fun I have watched an Eagles scheme on offense in years.”

Andrew DiCecco: “I thought you saw the offense get more comfortable throughout the game. Kellen Moore called a really good game, you saw a ton of motion, saw a lot of creativity from the offense, scheming guys open. I really thought there was a good balance between the run and the pass.”

Geoff Mosher: “We learned about the identity. We saw the motion, we saw misdirection, running backs catching passes, screens. We saw a lot of the things we expected from a Kellen Moore offense.”

Jalen Hurts

Mosher: “This is why we say you can’t make anything of training camp, that whole interception-less streak and how he didn’t throw one until the final day…That coupled with the fact that until the fourth quarter, a lot of his quarterback runs were just pedestrian and some of them lost yardage, it seemed like the defense was very keyed.”

Caplan: “He also missed ID’ing blitzers, he has to be better with that.”

Vic Fangio

DiCecco: “I think he’s still trying to assess his personnel, where guys fit best. You saw a lot of players going in and out.”

Mosher: “I am a little concerned about how easily they were gashed in the run game up the middle from the second quarter to the fourth quarter.”

Zack Baun

Caplan: “Baun was phenomenal. He led them in sacks…I give the Eagles credit, they saw something in him. They looked at (Andrew) Van Ginkel, he wanted way too much money, so the Eagles didn’t go in his direction. For one game, he looked like Van Ginkel.”

DiCecco: “He looked great…I told folks everything that I have seen from Zack Baun in training camp, he looked fine. I thought he really acquitted himself well. You see his developing instincts and his range and ability to float to the football.”

Quinyon Mitchell

Caplan: “Certainly an uneven game, made some plays and gave up some plays. Had a couple of passes defensed.”
