‘New Number Two’
ITB: Potential Needs on Offense
The Philadelphia Eagles will be focused on depth pieces when it comes to putting together their offense for the 2025 season.
On the latest episode of “Inside The Birds,” Adam Caplan and Geoff Mosher dished out intel on the newest coach and looked at potential needs on the offensive side of the ball.

Scott Loefler
Adam Caplan: “He was a runner up to the Browns’ quarterback [coach] job that went to Kevin O’Connell in 2015…Loefler was Bowling Green’s head coach, who was Tom Brady’s backup once at Michigan. He has coached mostly at the college level…What we were told also by coaching sources is he badly wanted to get back into the NFL.”
Geoff Mosher: “Bowling Green played Penn State this year. They were winning that game at halftime and their quarterback was picking a very good Penn State defense apart.”
Running Back
Mosher: “If Kenny Gainwell doesn’t come back, I think some people think that Will Shipley would just step into that RB2 role, but the thing about Will is he is not the biggest guy in the world and pass protection is something you are going to have to learn. That’s something Gainwell is good at. You feel like they would need a number two or number three who can give you that pass pro and blocking.”
Caplan: “The word I got from a running backs coach who I ran into at the combine is it’s not very good for guys who can pass protect in free agency, he mentioned three or four guys that he kind of liked. Gainwell’s really good at it, he’s by far their best pass protector.”
Tight End
Caplan: “Even if Dallas Goedert comes back, this could be the draft year to start looking at his replacement. They also have to find somebody who can block.”
Mosher: “This is a good year to need a tight end because there are some pretty good ones available.”
Offensive Line
Mosher: “If Mekhi Becton stays, he’s your right guard and you have good depth with Tyler Steen there. If he doesn’t stay, Steen is in competition for the right guard but they will have to address their depth, I think they need to address their depth on the interior offensive line in general. I think they would like to have a backup center they feel good about going in.”
