Can’t Keep Everybody
ITB: Who Makes the Cut at LB, Corner?
The Philadelphia Eagles’ defense has with depth at many spots, but not all will be able to make the initial roster.
On the latest episode of “Inside The Birds,” Adam Caplan and Geoff Mosher gave their early projections for the defensive players on the 53-man roster.
Marlon Tuipuloto
Adam Caplan: “We forget about Marlon Tuipuloto. He barely played last season, but when he did play two years ago, he played 38% of the snaps. There were games he played more snaps than Milton Williams.”
Geoff Mosher: “He caught the attention more from Matt Patricia than Sean Desai. Even with getting more snaps, I can’t remember watching the tape and thinking he made a play there. Every spring, we talk about this guy that this might be his chance to prove himself and it just hasn’t manifested yet.”
Zack Baun
Caplan: “Baun is probably going to play both positions [edge rusher and inside linebacker]. (Vic) Fangio said he can play inside.”
Mosher: “Vic pointed out they think he can play [inside linebacker], more so than others. He has the body of an edge rusher, but he is a great athlete.”
Ben VanSumeren
Caplan: “This is a tough one. I don’t have VanSumeren making it because they are running out of spots.”
Mosher: “I have spent time looking at this position and trying to figure out who does not make it if VanSumeren does. I have a feeling he will figure it out. The traits are so tantalizing, he played well in the one game they asked him to play a decent amount of snaps.”
Isaiah Rodgers
Caplan: “Rodgers is a tough one because he has returner value. Kickoff returners have more value now.”
