ITB: Elite Defensive Performances Key to Win Streak
The 2024 Philadelphia Eagles stand at 10-2 very much in thanks to an elite defense.
On the latest episode of “Inside The Birds,” Geoff Mosher and Adam Caplan discussed recent standouts from the defensive unit.
Linebackers
Geoff Mosher: “Organizationally, the team wasn’t sure what it was going to get at linebacker. If they knew Zack Baun was going to be this good, then they wouldn’t have signed Devin White for the money they signed him. Howie (Roseman) signed him to be a special teamer and maybe edge rusher, Vic (Fangio)’s idea was to turn him into an inside linebacker, but even he tells you until you see it, you don’t know. They got great coaching from Bobby King, a little bit of luck, good evaluation of good raw, athletic talent, and it came together.”
Adam Caplan: “Nakobe Dean got off to a really bad start at training camp…but ever since then, it has been a steady climb. He has been a terrific blitzer…the Zack Baun situation, you and I don’t vote for AP, but the writers have to get it right. He’s playing at an All-Pro level.”
Josh Sweat
Mosher: “I thought Sweat played an unbelievable game against the Ravens. He fulfilled all responsibilities really well: run defense, pass rush, and going against Ronnie Stanley. Josh Sweat really worked him over. A couple of times Sweat had to drop into coverage and there was one play where he covered two guys.”
Jordan Davis
Mosher: “Davis in his limited role played really well as a run stuffer. He’s not playing a lot of snaps or in the pass rush, there were about five or six times that I noticed that he pushed the guy in front of him back or ripped him to the side and either made a stop on (Derrick) Henry or slowed Henry down so that somebody else could come and swarm.”
