Huff Around The Edges

Eagles Sign EDGE; End of Reddick/Sweat?

The Philadelphia Eagles have made their first splash of the 2024 free agency period.

Former New York Jets edge rusher Bryce Huff has agreed to a three-year deal with the Birds, per ESPN.

Bryce Huff

The 25-year-old Huff has been one of the most common names linked to the team ahead of free agency. Monday’s episode of Inside The Birds had identified him as one of the top targets.

Undrafted out of Memphis in 2020, Huff carved out a role for the Jets’ defense in his rookie season.

But it was the 2023 season where he earned his payday. Despite a limited role as a situational pass rusher, playing 42% of the team’s defensive snaps, Huff notched 10 sacks and was eighth in the NFL in pass rush win rate.

When playing the 5-0 Eagles early in the season, Huff brought down QB Jalen Hurts for 1.5 sacks as they gave the team their first loss of the season.

Making $17 million per year, Huff comes cheaper than most top edge rushers in the NFL, including Jonathan Greenard who agreed to a 4-year, $76 million deal with the Minnesota Vikings earlier in the day.

Now, he slots into an edge room where the only other guarantees are second-year Nolan Smith and veteran Brandon Graham.

With new contracts due soon, at least one of Haason Reddick and Josh Sweat now figure to be on the move after the team has fielded trade calls on both. The star pass rush duo faded during the 2023 end-of-season collapse, Reddick being held without a sack for the final five games including the postseason and Sweat for the last eight regular season games.
