Through restructures and a post-June 1 designation, the trade will save the Eagles almost $8 million.
Before the trade can get finalized next week, the Eagles restructured Bryce Huff’s contract this week. Once considered the team’s big-ticket free agent signing on defense in March of 2024 with a three-year, $51 million contract, Huff spent his lone year with the Birds struggling to fit into Vic Fangio’s versatile defense. After 10 games, he was placed on injured reserve to undergo wrist surgery, returning in limited fashion for the final two regular season games. Huff played in two postseason games before being inactive in the Eagles’ 40-22 victory in Super Bowl LIX.
Now, Huff will have the opportunity to revitalize his career under his former head coach Robert Saleh, who just joined the Niners for his second stint as their defensive coordinator. Playing in Saleh’s Wide 9, Huff went from an undrafted free agent in 2020 to a pass rush specialist for the New York Jets, tallying 10 sacks during the 2023 campaign.
The Eagles move forward with an edge room led by returners Nolan Smith Jr. and Jalyx Hunt and joined by newcomers Azeez Ojulari and Josh Uche.
