ITB: What Teams Look for in Combine

Weigh-In
Adam Caplan: “Schools over-height receivers, tight ends, linemen, and quarterbacks. There have been a number of quarterbacks that a school lists at 6’3 and the guy winds up being 6’1. That matters. You want to get the weight.”
Geoff Mosher: “When you talk about size, it’s not just their height. There are certain positions where certain lengths of body parts are really important: quarterback and hand size, offensive linemen and arm length.”
Speed
Caplan: “This coach told me that there a number of big-time college programs that have a GPS, players have it in their shoulder pads. That’s from football games.”
Mosher: “It makes sense when you think about it, you play games in pads.”
Medicals
Mosher: “Every year people have the argument how much of this is worth it. Nine out of every 10 people you ask, clearly answer immediately that it’s medicals.”
Caplan: “They get a further update on anyone who has ever had surgery. Then they have what is called the combine medical re-check in late March or early April.”
