ITB: Cosell Sees Promising Giants Defense
If all goes right, the New York Giants can be a surprising competitor in the NFC East for the Philadelphia Eagles.
On the latest episode of “Inside The Birds,” legendary NFL Films analyst Greg Cosell previewed the 2025 Giants.

Quarterbacks
Greg Cosell: “It appears that (Russell) Wilson will be the starter, I know there’s a whole training camp. I can’t get Jameis Winston out of my head. I know Winston played in Cleveland and he was up and down, but I just remembered the last time he was a true starter with the New Orleans Saints, he was playing at a real high level…(Jaxson) Dart is an interesting player, his mobility is a factor. He’s going to run for first downs.”
Cam Skattebo
Cosell: “The more I watched this kid, the more I liked him…I think Skattebo has the physicality and toughness to be a feature-type back. If Russell Wilson is your starting quarterback, you need a meaningful run game.”
Offensive Line
Cosell: “(Andrew) Thomas is a good left tackle, Jon Runyan Jr. is a solid player, they drafted (John Michael) Schmitz in the second round (in 2023), they’re expecting him to be a centerpiece. It’s the right side, the Evan Neal deal hasn’t worked out.”
Defensive Line
Cosell: “Dexter Lawrence will be back, he’s a man-and-a-half. They drafted the kid from Toledo, Darius Alexander, who’s a very intriguing prospect. On the edges, in their base, they’re going to have Brian Burns and Abdul Carter. Those are two explosive athletes who have to be dealt with.”
Secondary
Cosell: “What they did on the backend, they needed it. They brought in Paulson Adebo from New Orleans, who’s a solid corner who’ll start, and Jevon Holland. I had a great conversation with a coach in the league about safeties. The term he used is five tool safeties, he felt the best five tool safeties in the NFL are Minkah Fitzpatrick and Jevon Holland. Bringing Holland and Adebo in was also done intentionally for (Deonte) Banks. Banks is a really high-level traits corner…From everything you read and hear, he’s just an immature kid who still doesn’t quite know how to be a pro, but he’s super gifted.”
