‘Sandlot Football’
ITB: Preseason Takeaways
There were a few highlights from an overall rough outing by the Philadelphia Eagles in the preseason opener.
On the latest episode of “Inside The Birds,” Adam Caplan and Andrew DiCecco recapped Week 1 of preseason.

GETTY IMAGES: Philadelphia Eagles rookie QB Cole Payton led the team to a touchdown in his preseason debut.
Cole Payton
Adam Caplan: “Cole Payton had a scramble play on the touchdown. He’s a scrambler, this is what he does. He’s a really good athlete, good build. He has arm strength, the problem is the mechanics.”
Andrew DiCecco: “It was pretty much like sandlot football when he was out there. Three carries for 45 yards, he put the offense on his shoulders to make something happen.”
Willie Lampkin
Caplan: “Some really good blocks by Willie Lampkin. We have noted many times how physical he is, there’s nothing you can do about his arm length or his height.”
Ty Robinson
DiCecco: “In the game, he was able to get some pressure. He has a little bit more confidence, at least that’s what evident to me when you watch him play.”
Caplan: “The big positive to me is Ty Robinson showed up and showed up early in this game. He needed to because he has had a non-descript training camp.”
Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
Caplan: “Trotter Jr. was very active. Five combined tackles, had a sack. He wasn’t known as a great blitzer at Clemson, but that was a good sack that he had.”
Josh Weru
DiCecco: “Weru has done some solid things in camp the last week or so…He had a couple of pressures and a quarterback hit [against Baltimore]. It was cool to see what we’ve seen on the practice field translate into an actual game situation. He played 30 snaps in that game, which is more than I anticipated.”
