‘Ready To Go’

Rookie CB Mitchell Expects To Play Vs. Commanders

by

PHILADELPHIA – On the ninth defensive snap of the Eagles’ 28-22 divisional round playoff win against the Los Angeles Rams, rookie cornerback Quinyon Mitchell went to make a tackle against a charging Matthew Stafford, stopping the quarterback after a gain of only five.

That sequence resulted in the final play of the game for Mitchell, who was forced out with a shoulder injury.

The Defensive Rookie of the Year candidate was replaced by Isaiah Rodgers, the team’s dependable reserve, who totaled 57 snaps.

Given the gravity of the moment and his incessant competitive nature, Mitchell wanted to return. He conversed with trainers, but ultimately, the injury required rest.

“Just tried to make a tackle, kinda felt something in, like, my shoulder-neck area,” Mitchell said Wednesday. “And just couldn’t come back in.”

As for his status for Sunday’s home NFC Championship showdown against the Washington Commanders, Mitchell on Wednesday expressed optimism.

“Feeling good,” he said. “Ready to go this Sunday.”

In Mitchell’s absence, Rodgers performed admirably. He competing, challenging receivers and swarming to the football while also exhibiting the headiness to scoop a loose ball – forced by defensive tackle Jalen Carter – and return it 40 yards.

Rodgers, late in the game, fought through a cramp in his leg, later saying it locked up on him.

He gutted out the remainder of the game, laboring through the final defensive sequence.

“I was in a lot of pain, but it was more like that s—t didn’t matter,” he said after the game. “It’s win or go home. So, had to go out there and just fight it.”

As he has all season when summoned into action, Rodgers answered, further showcasing his reliability and weekly preparation.

When the team needed him, Rodgers came through and, per Mitchell, “played great.”

“I feel like all year, he’s just been coming in, stepping up and making plays when people go down and stuff like that,” Mitchell said. “So, I feel like he had a great game.”
