Slay: Day To Day

Birds CB Not Seriously Hurt

by

In the aftermath of the Eagles’ 20-16 win over the Cleveland Browns, one of the more prevalent storylines concerned a trio of players who exited the game early due to injury.

While head coach Nick Sirianni on Monday provided some clarity on left tackle Jordan Mailata’s hamstring injury, he offered fewer details on tight end Dallas Goedert and veteran cornerback Darius Slay.

According to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, Slay, who left the game with a knee injury, is considered day-to-day. The Eagles on Sunday play the Giants at MetLife Stadium, the first division game for Sirianni’s squad.

The 33-year-old Slay, a team captain, has enjoyed a strong start to the season, in addition to pairing opposite rookie corner Quinyon Mitchell and serving as a mentor for younger players.

While the news is certainly welcoming in light of the Mailata update, the knee injury will certainly be one to monitor ahead of the Eagles’ Week 7 clash against the Giants.

Coming on in relief of Slay for 22 snaps was Isaiah Rodgers, who performed well in Slay’s absence. Rodgers, 26, briefly exited the game after hitting his hand in an attempt to dislodge the football but returned to finish the game.

It’s my understanding that Rodgers’ postgame X-rays were negative, which explains why he was able to return to the game. If Slay can’t go, look for Rodgers to make his first start since Dec. 26. 2022.
