Tough Matchup?
ITB: Latest Eagles Developments
The Philadelphia Eagles will take their six-game winning streak into Los Angeles for a Sunday night battle.
On the latest episode of “Inside The Birds,” Adam Caplan and Geoff Mosher provided a midweek update on recent developments for the Eagles vs. Rams matchup.
Milton Williams
Adam Caplan: “If [his injury] was serious, it would have gotten out, that’s just the way it works. That’s a good sign.”
Britain Covey
Caplan: “We are getting close. It was a six-to-eight-week rehab, he didn’t have surgery for that broken shoulder blade. He went on injured reserve in Week 4, so we are close to him being able to practice.”
Geoff Mosher: “With the way things are going, not using Ainias Smith when they can as a punt returner makes me think that when Covey is ready to go, they’ll get him on the 53 and have him as the punt returner.”
Rams Defensive Front
Mosher: “The Rams are a real high pressure team, they give up points but they have a bunch of guys in the front six who rank really high in league pressure and as a team they rank top five in pressure rate. You are going to see a lot of bullets flying at Jalen Hurts and it sort of lends the Eagles into wanting to run the ball again, but it’s also hard to run against teams that play those big loaded fronts and get upfield fast.”
Caplan: “They are really young and super athletic. Kobie Turner is phenomenal, he was great last year as a rookie. The guy who is in the running for defensive rookie of the year is Jared Verse, holy smokes is he explosive.”
Run Game
Caplan: “They are the highest running team on first down, 65%. You would think it’s predictable, but teams aren’t really stopping them. They run a ton on third down…For the first time I have covered the Eagles in 25 years, they are clearly a running team.”
Jalen Hurts
Caplan: “Hurts’ accuracy has gone up, he only has one pick in the last six or seven games, he’s not turning it over, he’s a meaningful part of the run game, he just has to see the field better in the first quarter. If Hurts gets himself together and makes the throws he is supposed to make with his arm strength down the field and his toughness and ability to rally in the second half, they are narrowing the gap with the Lions.”
Mosher: “He has the most time to throw the football in the NFL, but he’s taking sacks at the highest rate of his career. He has answers against the blitz, he shouldn’t be taking this many sacks.”
