ITB: Pre-OTA 53-Man Roster Projection

by

The Philadelphia Eagles have a range of decisions to make on who makes the roster on the offensive side of the ball.

On the latest episode of “Inside The Birds,” Geoff Mosher and Adam Caplan give an early prediction for the 53-man roster starting with offense.

Quarterback

Geoff Mosher: “The question was will Kyle McCord beat out Dorian Thompson-Robinson and we say yes. It wouldn’t surprise me if they’re still able to get DTR back on the practice squad if they want to use a mobile quarterback as a look-team guy.”

Adam Caplan: “Thompson-Robinson is subject to waivers…he can be signed to the practice squad. As a scout team player, that’s an important job. You’re mimicking what the opponent does…Tanner McKee’s going to be the backup, they know that internally.”

Running Back

Caplan: “(Saquon) Barkley, (A.J.) Dillon, (Will) Shipley, and Avery Williams. I wanted to put Montrell Johnson on here, but you can’t cut Avery Williams as a punt and kickoff returner. By the way, he got more guaranteed money than A.J. Dillon”

Mosher: “Avery Williams getting more money and how they gushed over him, I couldn’t keep too many running backs. I just thought Barkley, Shipley, Avery Williams, and (Ben) VanSumeren, that’s enough. So I don’t have A.J. Dillon on my 53.”

Wide Receiver

Caplan: “(A.J.) Brown, (DeVonta) Smith, (Jahan) Dotson, (Terrace) Marshall who got 25,000 fully guaranteed at signing, the blocking receiver Johnny Wilson. I’m going to waive Ainias Smith off the roster. He’s a backup slot receiver and a punt returner, but Avery Williams can handle both.”

Mosher: “I just can’t see both Marshall and Dotson on this team. They are too much of the same guy.”

Tight End

Caplan: “I have (Dallas) Goedert, (Grant) Calcaterra, and Harrison Bryant, only keeping three. This is another one with Kylen Granson, say to his agent they want to keep him but they can’t keep four, so would he mind going to the practice squad?”

Offensive Line

Caplan: “I wanted to keep 11. It came down to (Darian) Kinnard, (Matt) Pryor, (Trevor) Keegan versus releasing (Kendall) Lamm as a vested veteran. Lamm’s got significant starting experience, he can start at left or right tackle so I felt he was a better one for them to keep.”

Mosher: “The one I had the most uncomfortable feeling about cutting but I did it was Trevor Keegan because he was a draft pick and it’s in his second year. We know they really like to keep their picks. He’s sort of limited by the fact that he’s only a left guard.”
