Camp Questions

The Philadelphia Eagles are figuring out answers as training camp continues.

On the latest episode of “Inside The Birds,” Geoff Mosher and Adam Caplan revisited the biggest camp questions entering the third week.

Sean Mannion

Geoff Mosher: “He is not doing it just one way. They do not go under center on every snap. Watching it for a couple of hours, this feels a lot like what you see from the Packers. The Packers will be in shotgun more-so than most Shanahan-McVay teams and they’ll also incorporate more RPOs…Nick Sirianni and Sean Mannion have said it: they are going to maintain some of the same things they have done well in their past Eagles offense.”

Adam Caplan: “No team ever runs 100% zone or 100% gap. But if you’re a zone team, you’re going to run 60-70% zone…There are some things that (Jalen) Hurts that they are going to keep.”

Jalen Hurts

Caplan: “When he’s on time, it looks beautiful. It’s repetition, he just needs reps because he has not been a timing quarterback.”

Markel Bell

Mosher: “He has held up in camp. His massiveness alone makes him a very difficult guy to get around but his feet and coordination still need to be improved.”

Caplan: “He has to redistribute his weight; he’s just a little bit awkward with his footwork.”

Nolan Smith Jr.

Caplan: “He makes plays, but it’s not even remotely close [to Jalyx Hunt].”

Mosher: “Smith has great athletic traits. I would just like to see a little bit more refinement as a pass rusher instead of just the speed around the edge all of the time. He’s going to get studied and he needs to figure out better ways to get to the quarterback when he’s getting ridden outside of the circle.”

Michael Carter II

Mosher: “Michael Carter is making it interesting…He is all over the field. It sounds like (Vic) Fangio said that no matter what, they’re going to figure out a way to get Michael Carter on the field. You might see more dime this year.”
