Going for Faulk?
Most Likely First-Round EDGE for Birds
A common theme prevails when scanning the Eagles’ list of reported 30 visits. The obvious would be that the team hosted a glut of offensive linemen, which could be perceived as foreshadowing, though hardly atypical for an organization committed to building through the trenches. But it’s worth noting that while the entirety of the list is uncertain, notably absent from the reported group was a (projected) first-round defensive prospect — until Wednesday.

According to Devin Jackson of the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Eagles also hosted Auburn pass rusher Keldric Faulk during the pre-draft process. Faulk, 21, is on-location in Pittsburgh for the NFL Draft and is expected to hear his name called Thursday evening.
It’s expected the Eagles will adopt an offense-centric approach with their selections this weekend, identifying cost-controlled building blocks to offset the impending investments on defense that await franchise cornerstones. While the presumption remains unaltered, Faulk qualifies as an intriguing name, as he’s a bit of an enigma. His projected draft range varies, and his limited college production could invoke apprehension when it comes to forecasting future success. In 37 games (32 starts), Faulk managed 10 sacks — including his two from last season — and 19.5 tackles for loss.
Beyond positional A-listers Arvell Reese, David Bailey and Rueben Bain, there’s a compelling case to be made that Faulk headlines the next tier. Sure, Faulk probably requires more projecting compared to the likes of Clemson’s T.J. Parker and Clemson’s Akheem Mesidor, but boasts the measurables, traits and upside that suggests a higher ceiling. For context, Faulk (6-6, 276) has a wingspan that measured 82 1/4″ at the NFL Scouting Combine, capitalizing on his unique length when combating offensive linemen. Faulk packs a punch when striking and his power at the point of attack is a dominant trait. Faulk also offers added appeal due to scheme versatility.
It can be argued that the Eagles, approaching draft weekend, are thinnest at edge rusher. Sure, Jalyx Hunt is on the ascent and perhaps primed for a breakthrough season and 2023 first-rounder Nolan Smith Jr. has strung together some bright moments, but the group could use a headliner. Adding Faulk wouldn’t fill that void, at least not immediately. It would, however, represent long-term stability at the position, and a potential difference-maker. The priority is likely to add building blocks on offense, to be sure, but each draft has its curveballs. Maybe there’s a surprise pick that alters plans, or perhaps an early run at a certain position, but there’s a path in which Faulk could suddenly become a value pick.
