ITB: Will Milton Allow for Eagles Offense to Take Step Forward?
The Philadelphia Eagles are making a major pivot on the heels of a sixth consecutive loss, handing the keys behind center to a recently-signed signal-caller.
On the latest episode of “Inside The Birds,” Geoff Mosher and Adam Caplan dove into the decision to switch to Joe Milton III as the starting quarterback.

Joe Milton III
Geoff Mosher: “You have a first-year offensive coordinator trying to show what he can do, the offensive line with young guys that you’re trying to develop, you have Eli Stowers and Makai Lemon, and you have the worse offense in decades for the Eagles. There’s no environment to be able to judge evaluate, you need to figure out if maybe Joe Milton can go in there because he’s dynamic with his legs, can get away from pressure, has a beautiful arm…They just need to find some way to see if they can move the chains slightly better and go from there.”
Adam Caplan: “Joe Milton is a guy that just has an enormous arm…He has terrible accuracy. The Patriots thought so much of him they traded him after one year, the Cowboys wanted him. Then 30 teams told you what they thought of him, he was not claimed off waivers.”
Sean Mannion
Mosher: “I think this is an opportunity for Sean Mannion and his staff to try to show that they can be a little bit creative, maybe they can get him on the move in designed runs, which they didn’t do with Jalen Hurts. Maybe bootlegs and rollouts, maybe they use different formations that we haven’t seen, maybe they direct snap it to him in the goal line. I don’t think that they’re just going to go out there and roll out the same type of offense they were running with McKee.”
Cole Payton
Mosher: “Cole Payton may not be a quarterback, he has a long way to go. I do think there’s an opportunity to use him. Is there an opportunity to get Cole Payton on the field as your Taysom Hill H-back, give you something in the run game as a wildcat guy?”
Caplan: “I was against it, because he’s such a project, but on your point, wildcat’s completely different…What’s the worst that can happen?”
Nick Sirianni
Caplan: “I’m disappointed that Sirianni said one thing on Monday then he changed it, but I have seen this happen before. Coaches think better of it once they have their meetings Monday night into Tuesday and you typically tell the players Wednesday morning.”
