ITB: More DT Extensions on the Way?

The biggest strength of the Philadelphia Eagles roster is set to take up a significant portion of the team’s cap room and cash spending.

On the latest episode of “Inside The Birds,” Adam Caplan and Geoff Mosher discussed the interior defensive line contracts and the big decisions awaiting.

Jalen Carter

Adam Caplan: “It would not surprise me if this deal gets done by the start of training camp. It’s going to be well over $30 million [per year].”

Geoff Mosher: “If he gets this contract extension, especially if it’s soon, he’ll probably be the highest paid defensive tackle in the league.”

Jordan Davis

Mosher: “He still doesn’t play a ton in the nickel. By this time next year, he may have to continue to play a bigger role in the four-man rush as an interior rusher. But if [Carter is extended], you’re going to have two guys making top five DT money. This is where is starts for the Eagles defense.”

Caplan: “They’re pretty much, by structure, locked in through ‘28. His total cash in ’28 becomes fully guaranteed in March.”

Moro Ojomo

Mosher: “Ojomo to me is a tough case for re-signing because if he’s just paying attention to what his teammates have made on the free agent market and he expects himself to be put in a really good position this year just like Milton Williams was two years ago to be surrounded by great pass rushers, be able to get big sack numbers and pressure numbers and win rate numbers, then he’s probably going to put himself in line to get a real top-of-the-market type of deal next season.”

Caplan: ‘If they don’t extend this before the start of the season and he has a really good year, I just don’t see any way you can bring him back. They have so many guys they have to extend. This is a great problem to have in terms of so many guys you want to keep but you just can’t.”

Byron Young

Mosher: “If he has a good year he can maybe find himself vying somewhere next year. He’ll be an important backup for the Eagles this year.”
