Pickett Pickup
ITB: Pickett In Line to Start if Hurts Does Not Advance Through Protocol
The 12-3 Philadelphia Eagles may be relying on backups in key positions as they take on the 7-8 Dallas Cowboys.
On the latest episode of “Inside The Birds,” Geoff Mosher and Adam Caplan provided major updates for both teams ahead of their Week 17 matchup.
Ian Book
Geoff Mosher: “You need a third quarterback. If Jalen Hurts can’t play, you have Kenny Pickett and backup (Tanner) McKee. As everyone learned in the NFC Championship game when the 49ers lost Brock Purdy and had to go to Josh Johnson and then he got hurt but they didn’t have an emergency QB. You need three.”
Adam Caplan: “I know he’s new to this offense, but (Nick) Sirianni knows him, there’s a trust level…the book on him is he is pretty athletic, pretty smart, really good for the quarterback room.”
Bryce Huff
Caplan: “With a ligament surgery, you have to get the functional strength back, which he did say he had last week…This is his first week back testing it, so the hope is here now that he can actually get cleared to play and just get into the rotation and give them some snaps off the bench.
Mosher: “I just think fresh legs, another body, and a guy who does have a resume, it’s never a bad thing to add a guy like that into your rotation.”
Jalen Hurts
Caplan: “If Hurts can get out there on Friday and actually be limited, then he has a chance. If he doesn’t practice, he wouldn’t be able to play because he wouldn’t be far enough in the protocol.”
CeeDee Lamb
Caplan: “He will not play again this season. He has an AC joint sprain, it’s typically an injury that’s nagging, but receivers and offensive linemen play through it with a harness. They have decided to shut him down.”
Eric Kendricks
Caplan: “Kendricks has not done much this week with a calf injury. Nick Vigil, who played for Mike Zimmer in Minnesota, had a great game last week starting at mike linebacker.”
