Tag! They’re It

Tony Pollard, Josh Jacobs Get Franchise Tags ; Birds RB Sanders Benefits

by

In their effort to unseat the Philadelphia Eagles as NFC East champions, the Dallas Cowboys will be able to keep their top free agent heading into 2023.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that the Cowboys have used their franchise tag on running back Tony Pollard.

Pollard had a breakout season in 2022 despite sharing snaps in the backfield with Ezekiel Elliot. He rushed for a career-high 1,009 yards and nine touchdowns, while adding 371 yards and three more touchdowns in the receiving game.

Also, the NFL Network reported that the Raiders have tagged running back Josh Jacobs.

The tagging of Pollard and Jacobs could correlate with how much money upcoming Eagles free agent RB Miles Sanders could receive in the open market.

With a stacked free agent RB class now a bit thinner, Sanders has less competition among the top free agent runners, potentially helping him land more money from a team desperate for a running back.

As previously reported by ITB, the Eagles have interest in bringing back Sanders at their set price, but an RB-needy team could outbid them.

Josh Jacobs and Saquon Barkley are the other top running backs still set to hit the open market at the moment.
