Hurts To Take Part In Walkthrough

Birds QB Progressing From Shoulder Injury

by

Eagles quarterback and NFL MVP candidate Jalen Hurts appears to be progressing toward a return from a shoulder sprain for the Eagles’ season finale against the New York Giants on Sunday at the Linc.

Head coach Nick Sirianni on Wednesday said that Hurts would participate in Wednesday’s team walkthrough practice, which is the lightest practice session of the week.

Sirianni said Hurts, who has missed the past two games, is still “day by day,” but the third-year pro’s participation in a walkthrough session in his first since injuring the shoulder against the Bears in Week 15.

Eagles QB Jalen Hurts is “day by day,” per his head coach, but will take part in the walkthru.

Last week, Hurts didn’t participate in the Wednesday walkthrough and was very limited in Thursday’s and Friday’s practices. Sirianni said Sunday, after the team’s 20-10 loss to the Saints, that backup Gardner Minshew took all the starter reps in last week’s practice.

Minshew and the Eagles are 0-2 in the past two games after the Eagles opened the season 13-1 and were headed toward an NFC East title and the NFC’s No. 1 seed for the playoffs.

Both the division and top seed still hang in the balance entering the final week of the regular season, as the Eagles have been hit hard by injuries down the stretch.

In other injury news, Sirianni said the Eagles are activating safety C.J. Gardner Johnson and defensive end Robert Quinn into the 21-day practice window, giving each a chance to activated onto the 53-man roster ahead of Sunday’s game.

Gardner-Johnson has been sidelined on Injured Reserve since Week 12 with a lacerated kidney and Quinn went on IR with a knee injury about one week later after being inactive against the Titans in Week 13.

Also, defensive end Josh Sweat, who was carted off the field Sunday against the Saints in the first quarter and taken to a hospital for examination of his neck, was back at the NovaCare Complex on Wednesday, Sirianni said, and is “day by day.”

As for slot cornerback Avonte Maddox, who missed the past game with a severe toe injury but wasn’t placed on Injured Reserve, Sirianni said he’s “hopeful” the fifth-year corner can return sometime down the road. Maddox isn’t expected to be ready until later in the playoffs.
