No Sign Of Hurts

Birds QB Remains Sidelined; Elliott Handling Kickoffs At Practice

by

PHILADELPHIA – The Eagles didn’t hold a practice on Christmas but released an estimated practice report that listed quarterback Jalen Hurts (left finger/concussion), running back Will Shipley (concussion) and linebacker Nakobe Dean (abdomen) as non-participants if the team had practiced.

Quarterback Kenny Pickett (ribs) would’ve been listed as questionable.

The team resumed its normal schedule Thursday, taking the field at 2:15 p.m.

While the rest of the team warmed up on a far field, all eyes fixated on the quarterbacks, who were warming up a field nearest the media in attendance.

GETTY IMAGES: Eagles QB Kenny Pickett was on the practice field Thursday, but starter Jalen Hurts (concussion) wasn’t.

There was no sign of Hurts, as the three quarterbacks participating in drills were Pickett, Tanner McKee and newly signed Ian Book.

Pickett, who showcased zip on his passes Thursday, appeared to be wearing a protective jacket to cushion his ribs. He could be the starter Sunday against the Cowboys at the Linc if Hurts isn’t cleared.

Pickett, who led the quarterback drills, tossed some completions to wide receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith.

Book, in his second stint with the Eagles, has been issued No. 13.

No sign also of Shipley, as the rookie running back remains in concussion protocol. But Dean was present and participating in some capacity.

An official injury report released later this afternoon will reveal definitive practice statuses.

Elsewhere, kicker Jake Elliott – not punter Braden Mann – handled kickoffs during a drill while Mann fielded them. Worth keeping an eye on to see if the team makes a change there as the temperatures drop in the coming weeks.

Wide receiver Britain Covey (neck) was practicing and back fielding punts alongside rookie DB Cooper DeJean. In an effort to prepare for what’s expected to be rainy conditions, running backs coach Jemal Singleton sprayed water from a bottle.

Cornerbacks Darius Slay and Quinyon Mitchell, as they do every Thursday during the portion of practice open to media, got some individual work in with pass game coordinator/defensive backs coach Christian Parker.
