Book Return
Birds Re-Sign QB, RB To Practice Squad
PHILADELPHIA – The Eagles on Thursday engaged in some tinkering with its practice squad, announcing the signings of quarterback Ian Book and running back Lew Nichols.
Defensive back Tariq Castro-Field was released in a corresponding move.

Book, 26, spent some time with the Eagles in 2022, and Nichols is also making his second stint with the team.
Book was a 2021 fourth-round pick of the New Orleans Saints, who most recently spent the summer with the Kansas City Chiefs before his August release.
In 2022, he was claimed off waivers by the Eagles and served as the No. 3 behind Hurts and Gardner Minshew. He provides some extra insurance in the event the team is down a quarterback Sunday, as Jalen Hurts remains in concussion protocol.
Book, by the way, has one career appearance, completing 12 of 20 pass attempts for 135 and two interceptions.
Nichols, a 2023 seventh-round pick of the Green Bay Packers, spent a significant amount of last season on the Eagles’ practice squad before signing a Futures contract in January.
He participated in training camp and had some nice moments, but was unable to stick. Nichols joins fellow running back Ty Davis-Price on the practice squad.
