But His Finger…

Hurts Playing Through Broken Finger

by

PHILADELPHIA – Jalen Hurts sat down, prepared to face the media after what had been an eventful week and then issued a seemingly calculated message.

“So that’s what you all wanted to see, huh?” he said.

Hurts, of course, was referring to the much-discussed Eagles passing game, a largely clunky operation for much of the season that rounded into form Sunday in a 27-13 win against the Pittsburgh Steelers at the Linc.

Wide receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith combined for 23 targets, 19 receptions, 219 yards and two touchdowns.

While much of the conversation centered around the viability of the team’s passing game last week, especially on the heels of wide receiver Brown’s “passing” answer when asked what must improve, the Eagles answered the bell, rising to the occasion and playing complementary offensive football.

The Steelers appeared intent to minimize the damage of running back Saquon Barkley, placing a spotlight on the aerial attack. The Eagles checked that box off, too.

More remarkable was that Hurts was playing through an injury on his left ring finger, which he revealed after the game had limited him, to some degree.

Yes, it’s broken, and it did impact my play,” he said.

While Hurts didn’t elaborate on when or how the injury occurred, the franchise quarterback notably appeared on the injury report last week with a left finger designation, though he was a full participant throughout.

Hurts offered a tad more clarity regarding the status of his injured finger.

“I mean, it is what it is,” he said. “I’ve known it’s been at the state it’s at all week, and I don’t really want to put too much more into it. I can say I don’t think it got any worse today. If it’s shattered, it’s shattered. It is what it is.”
