ITB: Possible Roles for Eagles' New Additions

Acquisitions continue to roll in for the Philadelphia Eagles as they look to fill roster holes before the NFL draft.

On the latest episode of “Inside The Birds,” Geoff Mosher was joined by Andrew DiCecco to discuss the team’s most recent signings and initial prospect visits.

Andrew DiCecco: “You might want to write his name in pencil when you do your early 53-man roster projections, but he will have his opportunity.”

Geoff Mosher: “He had his best year in the Colts offense in 2022 as a slot receiver when he caught 63 passes for 623 yards…Our understanding of his fit with the Eagles is that his role could change. He could be a slot receiver if they want to be heavy 11. If not, he could play the outside over DeVante Parker. Last year, he only had 20 catches for 104 yards. We have been told he had some bad practices and the Giants went in different directions.”

Mosher: “You have to think here that his experience in the scheme is big. Kellen Moore said lets bring in a guy who knows what to do here.”

DiCecco: “Just to help implement the system and make it easier. He is not a threat to Tanner McKee for the number three spot. My understanding of Grier is that he has really good leadership and is a good locker room guy. Doesn’t have a big arm but is an aggressive passer. Some of those leadership qualities could help distribute the information and help everyone get on the same page.”

Isaiah Rodgers

DiCecco: “He has to get reinstated first. He hasn’t played football in a year, you have to let it all play out. He was predominantly an outside corner. His body and frame translates more favorably to playing inside, but he still has to prove he can do it.”

Brenden Rice

DiCecco: “Wide receiver from USC, son of NFL Hall of Fame wide receiver Jerry Rice. He is a big-bodied guy, really physical at the catch point, good with contested catches. When you look at the body type, he fits the mold of A.J. Brown.”

Laiatu Latu

Mosher: “He is explosive, was the PAC-12 Defensive Player of the Year.”

DiCecco: “Relentless pass rusher, scrappy, tough as nails. He is someone who can step right in and be a situational rusher. He can provide some pressure off the edge right off the bat. Really good hand usage. The neck issue is a concern that they will have to check the medicals of.”
