ITB: Latest Intel on Roster Moves, Injuries

by

Philadelphia Eagles’ personnel chief Howie Roseman is as active as ever in the midst of the team’s quest for a second straight Super Bowl title.

On the latest episode of “Inside The Birds,” Geoff Mosher and Adam Caplan provided intel on the recent Eagles’ transactions and injuries.

Za’Darius Smith

Geoff Mosher: “They signed this guy to play. Even if it’s not a whole lot of snaps on Sunday, there’s no question that in this three-man rotation that Vic (Fangio) prefers, Za’Darius is going to be a big part of it. He can move inside and play inside in nickel.”

Adam Caplan: “They gave him some money, he’ll make just over $4 million…He has been a standup pass rusher, so he’ll fit in from that standpoint.”

Tank Bigsby

Caplan: “I like the move, but it’s a lot to give up for a backup. They didn’t trade for him just because he can return kicks. (Will) Shipley’s hurt, that’s why this got done.”

Mosher: “The severity of the broken rib will be interesting, [Shipley] didn’t practice Wednesday…I hit up a league person who knows the Eagles really well and this person says to me that Howie’s urgent…He brought up the Avery Williams experiment where they wanted a guy who can play multiple roles. This is that kind of guy except he has proven he can play in the NFL.”

Gabe Hall

Caplan: “He has talent, has elite length. He has been a good story, but he does not have Byron Young’s versatility and he doesn’t stop the run. Young gives them more than Gabe Hall does and roster spots are at a premium for a backend guy when Vic doesn’t like to like a lot of lineman.”

Mosher: “Right now, you have Jordan Davis, (Moro) Ojomo, (Jalen) Carter, Young. You don’t really need too much more than that on your active roster especially if you’re going to have guys on your practice squad.”

Dallas Goedert

Mosher: “Dallas Goedert was out of practice Wednesday with a knee injury. If it’s severe and it looks like he’s not going to play, you’re talking about a rushing offense that’s without its best run blocker at tight end…You have Landon Dickerson who has been in and out of games, you didn’t run the ball very well against the Cowboys, no Ben VanSumeren, no Johnny Wilson who was a big part of your blocking out of 11 personnel. You have to worry about your rushing offense.”

Caplan: “It’s concerning. He’s an athletic ‘Y’ tight end. He is so valuable to the run game in a major way.”
